In 2008, Wine Director Sarah Trubnick was working in a cellar in Bordeaux when The Barrel Room's concept solidified in her mind: a wine bar and restaurant dedicated to educating guests about wine regions of the world: their unique varieties, wine styles, and stories. Two years later, The Barrel Room opened as a small wine bar in the SF Tenderloin, later expanding into the Rockridge neighborhood in Oakland, then opening in the SF Financial District in 2015 as a restaurant, full bar, event space, and retail bottle shop. The Barrel Room takes guests on a journey around the wine regions of the globe. A glass list of 50+ wines arranged in educational flights (with some menus requiring the flights be served blind), dining menus that highlight traditional dishes and regionally inspired contemporary creations, and a full cocktail list all rotate quarterly to give our guests new educational experiences with every visit. Our extensive international bottle list features iconic producers and styles from influential wineries around the world. Wine Director Sarah Trubnick and Executive Chef Manuel Hewitt are dedicated to offering menus that never cease to pique guests’ interest. In addition, The Barrel Room hosts wine education seminars, guided tastings and pairing dinners, and an online educational series (including tastings of course!) showcasing famous and lesser-known wine regions throughout the world.
