We started our project La Forastera in 2018.
My family in law owns in total 3,4 ha. of beautiful old and small vineyards in the hills of Font-Rubi, an hour landinwards from Barcelona. The vineyards are situated in a zone which is called Vinyes de les Serres Velles which means Vineyards of the old mountains.
The grape varieties are Parellada, Macabeo and Sumoll and in 2023 we planted 0,6 ha. Monastrell and 0,4 ha. Xarel.lo. First years were mainly worked in the vineyards to get them in a better condition then what they were before.
Besides working the vineyards we started to make wine from grapes we bought (négoce) – 2019 Xarel.lo grapes from Ton Rimbau, 2020 Xarel.lo grapes from the family of Amos Baneres. 2021 and 2022 again we bought grapes from the family of Amos Baneres (Xarel.lo and Macabeo) and started to make wine from our own plots of Parellada, Sumoll and Macabeo.
The wines are made with the use of indigenous yeast, unfiltered, no added sulphur nor the use of any other oenological tricks. Just pure fermented grape juice. Our idea is that the vineyards provide healthy grapes and with minimal intervention we create beautiful wines with skin maceration variable from 6 hours to 6 weeks to 6 months more or less. Fermentation and aging of all wines is in stainless steel tanks and all wines are aged on the lees.
And why the wolfs on the label? A piece of forest in Vinyes de les Serres Velles is called Bosc de Cal Llopet which literal means The forrest of the little wolf.
