The project La Forastera has its origins in 2018 when we started to work on some old vineyards and orchards.
In total the surface stretches 3,4 ha. of vineyard, partly in production, other parts need to be replanted, and some orchards with almond and olive trees (1,1 ha.).
The property is owned by my family in law and is situated in the hills of Font-Rubi (Penedès - Catalunya), located in a zone which is called Vinyes de les Serres Velles which means Vineyards of the old mountains. An hour land inwards from Barcelona.
The grape varieties we work with are Parellada, Macabeo and Sumoll and Xarel.lo. Varieties typical for the Penedès.
In 2021 we started to make wine from our own grapes and grapes we bought (négoce) – all grapes are farmed ecological and the once we buy are from two surrounding friends/farmers in Font Rubi and Sant Marti Sarroca.
The wines are made with the use of indigenous yeast, unfiltered, no added sulphur nor the use of any other oenological tricks. Just pure fermented grape juice.
Our idea is that the vineyards provide healthy grapes and with minimal intervention we create beautiful wines with skin maceration variable from 6 hours to 6 weeks to 6 months more or less. Fermentation and aging of all wines is in stainless steel tanks and all wines are aged on the lees.
And why the wolfs on the label? A piece of forest in Vinyes de les Serres Velles is called Bosc de Cal Llopet which literal means The forrest of the little wolf.
