The mission of Domaine des Enfants is to preserve the existence, diversity, and nativeness of the Roussillon. We would like to bring the region to the outside world, and present it’s wines as a product of nature. Sustainable cultivation and facilitation of biodiversity are therefore just the logical consequences of our knowledge of nature’s perpetuity versus mens’ momentariness. Healthy, lively soils are the prerequisite for expressive and characteristic wine. This is why most of our vineyards are being ploughed by horse, and the vines are weeded by hand and picket. Our wines are the exact result of what the vineyards create due to our work during the year. We try to intervene very little with the natural process and give them time to find harmony and balance., Domaine des Enfants was founded in 2006 as the realisation of a childhood dream by Swiss born Marcel Buhler, and soon after joined in 2010 by Native Oregonian Carrie Sumner. We are a family business and produce red and white wines grown from old vine grenache, carignan, syrah, lladoner pelut, macabeu, and mourrvedre. The complexity of the wines not only comes from the different varieties, but also very much from the various soils and microclimates. About half of the vines around Maury are rooted in meagre schist soil. The other half can be found in a higher altitude with granite and gneiss soils in Cassagne, Caramany and Rasigueres, and on the Terra Rossa soils around Latour de France.
