- 1 - 2 pm | Tasting ancient vines and winemaking traditions from Portugal - with Simon J. Woolf (The Morning Claret), Ryan Opaz (Catavino.net).
Simon J Woolf and Ryan Opaz, authors of the New York Times best wine book 2021 "Foot Trodden - Portugal and the Wines that Time Forgot", take you on a journey across Portugal, with six wines made by ancestral winemaking methods and sourced from extraordinary vineyards. You'll taste wines made from 100 year old vines, and made in clay pots (talhas) that are around 200 years old. But these are not museum pieces - they are living traditions. Portugal combines a strong heritage with a fast developing artisanal wine scene. Increasingly, Portugal's growers understand that the way to express these beautiful assets is to practice the minimum possible intervention in the cellar, and to work with respect in the vineyards.
