The region of Rechnitz is part of the Südburgenland/Eisenberg origin and has always been known for the ancient, often underestimated Welschriesling grape. Tom Straka has dedicated himself to revive its century-long tradition and to show the world its beauty. This beauty relies upon unique green schist soils, high elevation and a beneficial climate with cold winters and warm, dry summers. The human factor is represented by Straka’s organic viticulture and vinification methods following ancient know-how: large, used oak barrels, sufficient time to mature on the lees, no unnecessary additives. Expect fruit-driven yet structured Welschrieslings in various expressions (regional Grünschiefer, village Rechnitz…) but of course also Southern Burgenland’s signature Blaufränkisch reds showing the spicy character of Tom Straka’s approach.
