something
The estate vineyard of Oszkár Maurer is in one half of Bácska, the Ludasi Lake area, while the other half is in the famous historic region of Szerémség. The vineyards are of old local varieties like Mézes Fehér, Bakator, Szerémi Zöld, or a hundred year old plantation of Kadarka. The traditional single stake vineyard management was used for the new plantations aswell. Most plots are worked by horse, some by tractors. The average age of the old vineyards growing is 60 years. The oldest plots are Kadarkas planted in the 1880s and 1912. It was an old dream of revive the famous wine region of Szerémi, and it finally began to happen. My goal was to plant back the old varieties (Bakator, Szerémi Zöld, Kadarka, Mézes Fehér) which originate from Szerémi region. These varieties are important not only because they are of our own (and we have a responsibility to preserve ), but also as a unique and authentic wines can be created from them. I believe that wines from these varieties can compete internationally, if a healthy habitat for the grape growing and traditional winemaking methods can be ensured.
