Founded in 1971 by Englishman John Dunkley, Riecine soon garnered a reputation as being one of the greats of Chianti Classico. The estate continues to uphold these values, combining tradition and innovation to produce 100% Sangiovese wines, exclusively from estate vineyards. Riecine’s vineyards divided in to distinct blocks are carefully positioned in the hills high above the village of Gaiole in Chianti. Biodynamic practices are used to complement the organic farming methods already in place at Riecine. A long growing season and a meticulous selection at harvest on a vineyard-by-vineyard basis, ensure the grapes arrive in the winery in ideal condition, even in the most difficult of vintages. In the winery, high-tech, low-intervention winemaking prevails. State-of-the-art equipment in Riecine’s new winery combines perfectly with a very natural approach to winemaking that guarantees the wines produced retain the character and identity of each of Riecine’s vineyards. Ageing in selected barrels, cement and stainless-steel, is followed by careful blending to produce Riecine’s three, distinct, Sangioveses: Chianti Classico, Riecine di Riecine and La Gioia, the character of each wine reflecting the place, the vineyards and the estate.
