something
The winery is run by Marina Marcarino, who is one of a few female wine makers which first started, by herself and at 20 years of age, this activity in Piemonte The property, has been owned by the Marcarino family since four generations: it was year 1964 that the Punset winery decided to sell its wines in shops and restaurants. Up to this period, the wines were made only for family use. Over the 50 years that the winery has been marketing their products, they have developed methods and philosophy of making excellent wines at reasonable prices. Punset Vineyards are always following organic methods without using chemical pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers. Punset is the only winery in the area that was totally converted to the growth of vines with natural certified methods in 1982, getting the certification in year 1987. They also follow biodynamic methods but, for many reason, the choice is not to be certified in this sense. In the first years of this century Marina was fascinated by Masanobu Fukuoka and his theory of the “agriculture of not doing”, so after some first experiences on some areas of the estate, she started in full with this practice in year 2007. Marina Marcarino personally takes care of wine making . Selected grapes from owned vineyards become wines only with spontaneous fermentation of indigenous yeasts, respecting the tradition and avoiding, however, extreme characters. Wines with typical characteristics of high quality and personality are reaching many markets with an increasing positive reputation year by year. Only the very best grapes picked in our vineyards are made into our wines. Marina’s goal is to make pleasant and balanced wines, paying particular attention to the relation between texture, tannins and aromas. She believes that only a very strict relation between these three characters makes a wine pleasant and drinkable. A second peculiarity of Punset is wine realising at the right time. This combines totally with organic thinking of a leaving product. As a wine is alive, it needs its own times and there is not a rule to bottle or place it on the market. For this reason, the Punset Barbaresco is always released on the market later than other producer’s wines of the same area. Even being one of the oldest organic and natural producers in Italy, Marina Marcarino always refuses to put this brand in the very particular corner of organic growers. In fact Marina thinks that being organic is a plus which can only be an additional peculiarity to a high quality wine, as she always believed to share the market with outstanding wine producer and working natural doesn’t mean to forget pleasantness, drinkability and balance. This explain how the organic and natural choice is a lifestyle.
