Simon Chkheidze Wine Cellar is located in Imereti (Western Georgia), in the village of Obcha II. The company was founded and is managed by the Chkheidze family, brothers Nugzar and Mamuka. The company was named after Nugzar and Mamuka’s late father Mr. Simon – honored professional winemaker. The mission of the company is to continue and promote family’s wine-making tradition of many years. The vineyard is cultivated on 240-260 meters above the sea level, located on alluvial-carbonated soil, sloped from the east to the west. The soil is periodically enriched with Biohumus. The vines are treated only with biological treatments. Simon Chkheidze Cellar produces red and white wines from different varieties of grapes, such as Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Krakhuna, and Chkhaveri; Although, it’s worth mentioning that the company has addressed and focused its main resources on producing Otskhanuri Sapere, yet less popular wine in Georgia. The above mentioned variety of grapes have almost eliminated in Imereti Region through years, but fortunately cultivation of Otskhanuri Sapere has significantly increased recently. Currently, Simon Chkheidze Wine Cellar vineyard cultivates approximately 8000 vines using ancient Georgian method of “Olikhnari”, meaning that each vine is supported by single wooden rod and without steel supporting system. The wine is produced and aged in “Qvevri” (Georgian Traditional Method).
