Pirouettes is above all a collective adventure. I am indeed in good company! Pierre and Xavier, two young and dedicated makers of natural wines, travel across the beautiful vineyards of Alsace, meeting up with winemakers in the organic and biodynamic tradition, doing good work in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. The latter, i.e. the vinification process, is often accompanied by fear of the unknown and uncertainty about how to sell these wines, free from additives. What we do is propose these winemakers to accompany them in the vinification and marketing processes. Together we develop the wines in our cellar. Each winemaker has his own universe, specifications and history. Vanessa, our commercial director, who firmly believes in this project, works with me selling these wines. Some of our wines in the Pirouettes series were initially good quality juices meant for bulk sales. Thanks to Vins Pirouettes, the associated winemakers are able to make natural wines, bottling and labelling under the joint brand of Vins Pirouettes. At the moment, we are seven winemakers associated with this exciting project. Why do we call it Pirouettes? First of all, because we are having great fun with this project! Secondly, because the wines we make together are like fancy pirouettes – beautiful artistic figures which demand a certain controll – which is not unexpected, after working with classic wines. These wines are actually very close to the terroir, the grape and the men and women producing and distributing them. Together we free ourselves of a dominant esthetics, a standardised taste, making room for emotions, new experiences and joy. Furthermore, because this project and these wines under the Vins Pirouettes label also represent an alternative to the established system of negociants, which has a tendency to create disadvantageous positions for small producers while benefitting the traders. Note that our business is not trading! I am happy to present this great project with my new associates. Long live the biodynamics! Long live natural wines! Long live the humanity of these winemakers, lovers of their land, and long live the unique and authentic wines! Long live the sharing of knowledge, experiences and networks!
