We’re Barbara and Joan Carles Torres. Our winery is located in the Aspres de l’Albera: a natural park located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. We have a property of 80 hectares of vineyards, meadows, olive groves and cork oak forests in a Mediterranean landscape marked by granite outcrops, dolmens and menhirs, and natural wetlands protected by the Natura 2000 network. We keep up and protect the land we inherited: we tend to the old vines, plant small plots for new projects and make wines with the aims of enhancing the terroir, the natural landscape and their biodiversity. We work our Grenache blanc, gris and rouge vines with organic methods and minimal intervention in the soil and plants; we make certified organic natural wines. We work 8 hectares of vines, planted between 1968 and 2017. The vines are located between 90m and 100m above sea level, the soil is granite sand (sauló) with some quartzite slate. All of our cultivated land is unirrigated and quite flat. We work the soil in the oldest vineyards by hand and the younger ones tenderly with the tractor. We enrich the soil with organic fertilizer and by seeding grasses and legumes. In order to keep the vegetation under control and enrich the soil with organic matter in winter we graze a flock of sheep from a local producer of organic cheeses. We make our wines only with grapes from our vineyards, hand-picked in the early morning and collected in 13kg crates to be transported to the cave. We decide ourselves when to harvest and how to treat the must from our vineyards, without the aid of outside experts or oenologists. We make all our wines without any interference in the processes of fermentation and ageing. This means that the wine ferments naturally with its own naturally-occurring yeast, and no oenological additive is introduced at any point in the process. Our wines contain no added sulphites, and we do not filter, clarify or practice any other sort of oenological corrections or interference. We collaborate with ecological and environmental stewardship organizations, farmers and associations for the maintenance and protection of the countryside, promotion of biodiversity and landscape heritage recovery. In order to show visitors how we live and work, we have restored a cottage as a guesthouse, we’ve marked out a walking tour of our land, we organize wine-tourism activities and we’re always delighted to welcome people in our cellar to talk about and taste our wines together!
