My first wine was made in 1998 using our garden grape, in the little cellar underneath our house. I wanted to make better wine. Let's see what Mátra is capable of, e.g. Kékfrankos, with high number of vinestocks and minimal load! In my opinion, Kékfrankos is the vinicultural heritage of the Carpatian Basin, a Hungarian assortment, and we Hungarians must work predominantly with these types. Now we have 5.5 ha of land, half of it covered with grapes. In the spring of 2004 we deployed our Kékfrankos in Vitézföld hillside – 1 ha, 8000 stocks, a low-cordon plantation. In the spring of 2007, 0.5 acre of Italian risling followed (4000 stocks). There is another acre of Kékfrankos in Tavaszföld hillside, 3000 stocks, planted 55 years ago, when it used to be a collective farm. The remaining area is still fallow. The rich mineral soil (weathered andesite, calciferous tufa sinter, hidrokvarcit) with a good placement provides ideal conditions for long-fermenting and long-living terroir wine. Naturally, this requires an artisan's approach, constant personal presence and hard physical work. I aim at organic cultivation, thus I don't use manure, fertiliser or weed-killer. In the course of cellar work I never apply assortment raisers, starter cultures, enzymes or artificial tannins. Instead, I pay attention to clarity and the original development process of the wine. I have chosen to foster elegance and harmony in my wines. I believe in the magnificent capabilities of the Mátra.
