Montet pronnounced « Mon Tête » is to start with geologically interesting, emerging
first from the Parisian Basin. This vineyard of 2 hectares (approx 5 acres), situated in the
municipality of L’île Bouchard, east of Panzoult is planted on a slab of limestone and in
close proximity of the Vienne.
The roots are established directly in the « tuffeau » (local white limestone), this chalky
topsoil, that we can touch and which brings freshness, acidity and grip to the wine.
It is another expression of the Chinon appellation, only 4 kilometers from the Pressoir (wine
Press), a historical site of the Domaine, however with a different geological composition.
It has a very distinct personality for this wine only, the Grosbois brothers have decided
should also be aged in barrel.
Viti-Vini
• Organic and biodynamic viticulture, « For us, it is evident »
• Natural covercrops and plantation of hedges
• 100 % cabernet franc, « we believe this to be a unique variety, which retains the foundations
of the appellation in 1937 ».
• Density of the plantation: « initially 4500 vines per hectare , which progressively has
become 6000 replanted vines per hectare ».
• Yield : 43 hectolitres per hectare.
• Hand harvested, completely de-stemmed and examined under the sorting table.
• Indigeonous yeasts, 25 days of maceration.
• Vinified without sulpher, with minimal adjustments made before bottling.
• Montêt is, because of it’s terroir rather different, the only wine of Domaine Grosbois aged
in barrels, for around 18 months.
