Nicolas and Sylvain Grosbois were brought up next to the river and have paid hommage
with this particular wine, to the gabares, the flat-bottomed boat or barge which have
sparked the imagination of their childhood. These are their bargemen who’ve built the
walls of their vineyards and villages, their graffiti still visible.
It is the signature wine of Domaine Grosbois, which comes from twelve blocks, untouched
since the the 15th Century : the vines surrounding the Domaine, on a scree of Millarge
limestone-clay, this yellow tuffeau rock is characteristic of Chinon as well as of the two
islets in the valley, composed of gravel-limestone.
Vintage 2020
If there was a generous and sweet vintage, 2020 is one of them.
A spring without frost problems with a rare Ligerian sweetness.
A mild and calm summer that allowed the vine to bloom with a rare homogeneity, precursor
of a beautiful harvest. A beautiful season leading up to a month of September/ October
temperate and sunny. What a joy to harvest in shorts under the sun without the pressure
of rain and botrytis.
A vintage to relive friends.
