From the Grower
"Vieilles Vignes Le Clos des Quarterons is an assemblage of all the old plots of the domaine, with vines averaging 55 years of age. Fermented for five to six weeks and aged in demi-muids for 12 to 18 months, this is a deep, intense and spicy, refined and elegant Cabernet Franc in a dark cherry color with purple reflections. It offers concentrated dark fruit aromas yet shows more layers after sufficient contact with air. Pure, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense and intense yet juicy red with silky tannins, good freshness and a fine and elegant, sustainable finish."

Additional Information

Les Vieilles Vignes is a blend of the old vines from all of our different parcels, average aged 55yrs. Best opened or decanted one to three hours in advance to appreciate the subtle hints of violet with a compote of blueberry and blackcurrant. It then softens without losing any of its assertive character. Vinification: Maceration in tank for 3 to 5 weeks Ageing: In 500L barrels (from Atelier Centre France et Saury) for 12 to 18 months. 25% of the barrels are renewed each year.
something
According to Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil’s AOP system, at Le Clos des Quarterons we mainly use Cabernet Franc. However, our vines are planted on a wide diversity of “terroirs”, so it’s been 10 years since it became obvious to run our vineyard based on the precepts of biodynamic agriculture, to let express the “taste of the place” in our wines. Biodynamic farming is very important for us, because it respects LIFE. It is far more than just a list of specifications. The ecosystem lies at the crossroads of energies from the Earth (roots) and Space (flowers, leaves and fruit). Given that the microbiological life of the vineyard is what enables both successful fermentations in the cellar and the creation of wine that is able to survive without a technological crutch, sustaining a healthy habitat in the vineyard for these microbes is fundamental for us. This microbiological life follows the grapes into the cellar, transforms the juice and even makes its way into the final wine in the bottle. Our wines are therefore, literally, living wine from living soil. For us, the Biodynamie principles go well beyond the wine itself, it is also a philosophy, a way of life : A virtuous system in which Man and Nature are one, and balance is achieved.
