From the Grower
""Les Quarterons is the Original Estate's Wine, fully linked to the history of Domaine Amirault. It goes back a long way as it has been nearly 180 years since the Amirault family has grown vines on the Clos des Quarterons, in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, namely, six generations who have succeeded the head of this family domain. It is now Xavier Amirault who succeeded his brother Thierry, fifteen years his senior and now runs the family estate. The vineyard covers 38 hectares, worked biodynamically (Demeter certified since 2010). Aging takes place in the Vau Renou’s Cave, an old stone quarry of tufa stone, several hundred meters long. In the cellar. Vinification is long and carefully done. Les Quarterons is aged in vats on fine lees for 12 to 18 months. This cuvée stands out thanks to its indulgent fruitiness and their very fine tannin grains. It is a wine with fresh fruit with crunchy and indulgent red berries whilst the palate unfurls a very pleasant, fine and light texture, offering up wonderful freshness. This cheerful wine is appreciated for its carefree, indulgent flavor and delicate freshness. It is packed with a full range of red fruit flavors - the perfect bottle to crack open with friends!""

something
According to Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil’s AOP system, at Le Clos des Quarterons we mainly use Cabernet Franc. However, our vines are planted on a wide diversity of “terroirs”, so it’s been 10 years since it became obvious to run our vineyard based on the precepts of biodynamic agriculture, to let express the “taste of the place” in our wines. Biodynamic farming is very important for us, because it respects LIFE. It is far more than just a list of specifications. The ecosystem lies at the crossroads of energies from the Earth (roots) and Space (flowers, leaves and fruit). Given that the microbiological life of the vineyard is what enables both successful fermentations in the cellar and the creation of wine that is able to survive without a technological crutch, sustaining a healthy habitat in the vineyard for these microbes is fundamental for us. This microbiological life follows the grapes into the cellar, transforms the juice and even makes its way into the final wine in the bottle. Our wines are therefore, literally, living wine from living soil. For us, the Biodynamie principles go well beyond the wine itself, it is also a philosophy, a way of life : A virtuous system in which Man and Nature are one, and balance is achieved.
