PRODUCER : AZIENDA AGRICOLA BARRACCO FRANCESCA
The Barracco Company is made up of 50 hectares that are on two districts of Mazara Del Vallo (district Roccazzo and Minneno). The Company was born by the union of two historical families , producers of wine, since the 18th century, the Barracco and the Maiale family.
The Barracco family were owners of the vineyard in the Roccazzo district and his founder, lawyer Franco Barracco, father of the today owner Francesca, awarded the title of mayor of Mazara Del Vallo, and recieved as an heritance the vineyard.
District Minneno was recieved in heritance to Triestina Maiale that married Franco Barracco.
The Maiale family is very knowed as producer of a special wine : the Marsala wine ” Superior Garibaldi quality ” since 1800.
The Vineyard in district Minneno passes from the owner Triestina Maiale to her daugther Francesca.
Unfortunaly this tradition has been interrupted for years , until Roberto Bruno , son of Francesca , in 2012, realized his dream to make the Company rise again, but with a different approce to the past tradition.
Inspired by the many fairs , to which he personaly participated, Roberto decided to produce a wine with a specific identity of his own territory.
Along with Ennio, the agronomist came to life a “natural” white wine.
Although the company is already in a biological regime , since the 90’s, One of the First in the area of Trapani, interventions in the vineyard are limited to the very necessary, the use of sulfur and Cooper is reduced to the minimum quantities and only when the conditions requir It.
Above all Roberto has recreated that biodiversity and ecosystem of flora and fauna that allows the grapevine to assorbe nourishment spontaneously and to defend itself, when necessary, in a completely natural way.
The same philosopy is applied during the vinification , where the fermentation of the grapes take place spontaneously through the yeasts that are naturally present in the vine.
Only minor manual interventations by man follow , as transfers and replacements , making reference to the calender of Thun which studies the phases of the Moon , position and movements of the planets that, as It is knowed, influence the coltivation of the grapevine plants and the phases of vinification.
The use of chemical or agents are excluded and and also the use of sulfur dioxid is limited to the minimum befor bottiling (20-30mg/l).
This explains the absence of the wine maker and the care and attention during the production, because only healty and carefully selected grapes, with specific characteristics and a meticulous attention during the vinification can lead to the production of a High quality “Natural” wine.
Our philosopy is based on total respect for nature during the coltivation and a total respect for our client , that has to experience the typical personality of the Barracco Wine without incurring any unpleasant side effect.
