This Grenache comes from the top of Christy and Wise Vineyard, a new biodynamic vineyard just outside the northwest boundaries of Sta. Rita Hills AVA. It is a blend of two clones : Alban and Garnacha. The grapes were fermented with wild yeast and aged in french oak barrels for 10 month. This Grenache is unfined and unfiltered and no SO2 was added until bottling. This deep colored wine has purple hues mixed with hints of red. The wine is bursting with aromatics of violet, fig, toffee, dried herbs, candied fruits like apple and orange, and maraschino cherry. The mouthfeel is lighter than expected with bright acidity, gripping tannins, and a lasting length in the finish. This Grenache is a great match with rich and gamey birds like turkey but also pheasant or pigeon, especially if accompanied with caramelized root vegetables like carrots, beets and parsnips. Because of its high acidity it can pair also really good with low cooked roasts and stews with wine sauces.
