BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE Given that the unique quality of a wine is constructed in the vineyards, our top priority is the care of the vines. Since these depend on the health of the soil, in Quinta do Casal do Paço we do our best to enhance the vitality of the land, and keep it in balance with all elements of Nature using only Earth friendly processes. Biodynamic agriculture, under the supervision of Daniel Noel and André Silva, is currently being implemented. This method is based in an enlarged understanding of life processes, which helps us to select the sustainable agricultural practices to use at any given moment, taking into consideraton the whole eco-system in which we act: Astronomic movements, animals, insects, plant species, the life and type of soils and the perypheral ecosystems. We use the synergies beteen natural processes to minimise plagues and diseases, creating a healthy symbiotic relationship between the vine and the environment. TERROIR The large Region of Vinho Verde, characterised by the freshness, floral/fruited aromas and special acidity of its wines, has within itself a geographic diversity that reflects on the wines of its sub-regions. We are located in the Lima Sub-Region, in which the variety Loureiro is known to achieve the highest degree in aromatic exuberance. The vines of Casal do Paço are situated in a South facing amphytheatre, in soft slopes, 1km North of River Lima. Sheltered by hills and forests from the North and West winds, they receive welcome breezes from the south bringing the Atlantic influence that characterizes the freshness of the wines. A micro-climate; a state of richness and purity of the land which is the legacy of centuries of hand-made agriculture; a sandy, granitic soil that endows the wines with a special acidity and minerality: these are the main features of our terroir
