Additional Information

The Mangatahi Terraces were formed 15,000 years ago from the parting and erosion of the Ngararuro river. Free draining alluvial gravels with a thin layer of silt loam deposited by the river and the wind. Underneath these deposits are where the famous “red metals” lie.Indigenous vineyard yeasts are utilised in a natural vineyard starter (pied de cuve) just as harvest starts. This is then added to the grape must as the fermentation in the winery begins, ensuring a healthy vineyard yeast strong ferment. This is a blend 100% carbonic maceration from the Heritage clone (whole clusters fermented uncrushed in a closed vessel) and semi-carbonic maceration with clone 509 (some crushed grapes so that the grapes are in contact with the juice).
something
I work with organic grapes sourced locally in Hawke's Bay because I believe in responsible farming, improving the health of our soils and what we put into our bodies. I have the privilege of working collaboratively with my growers, who care for their vineyards with great attention, heart and detail. I farm all of my allocated parcels biodynamically to improve and understand my connection to the land. This encourages biodiversity, life energy & optimal health in the vineyard.
