Torcuato Huertas has worked the land all his life, growing mainly olive and fruit trees. He also had kept the tradition of his ancestors making a simple wine for home consumption. It was in the early 80s, when he started going to give a hand to Manuel Valenzuela (Barranco Oscuro), his relative and his mentor, when he started to improve the winemaking, always with the respect for nature, curious to try new varieties and looking for authenticity in every bottle. He has 3 hectares of vineyard planted himself in the towns of Marchal, Beas de Guadix and Polícar, all within the Valle de Alhama in Guadix, in the north side of Sierra Nevada. Extreme continental climate with very little rainfalls and high contrast of temperature from day to night. Soils are mainly clay and sand, although Policar dominates a red clay called “rubial”. The vines are planted between 900 and 1.200 meters high, organically grown, harvested manually. Wines are made with no added sulfites and fermented with its own yeast. No additives of any kind.
