In 2015, three crazy wine guys took a decision: „We’ll try that“. A Jazz Singer and organist offered one hectare of vineyards for lease. She was looking for a leaseholder who would cultivate her vineyard like a garden. Susanne found this person in Richard Artner. Richard studied Geography and Landscape planning. He runs his own company on Landscape ecology and adores all kinds of plants! His friend Alexander (Xandl) Kagl shows some talent for calculating, he studied economic engineering. As a project manager and consultant Xandl has quite some knowledge about organisations. Apart from that the Vienna-born contributes a welcoming portion of “Viennese Schmäh” to the project. The third of the bunch is Luka Zeichmann. He not only received a musical talent by birth but also shows a natural talent for winemaking. The latter, paired with his unwillingness to compromise, results in fantastic natural wines.
FROM 1 TO 10
The guys started with one hectare of vineyards, one pair of rubber boots each and three pruning shears. A few years later they are running a serious enterprise. Today JOISEPH manages ten hectares of vineyards, half white, half red, entirely certified organic. A dozen of old and newly planted cherry-, nut-, peach- and almond trees can be found in the vineyards as well as a great variety of plants, herbs and wild animals.
10 WINES
The range of wines spans from the fresh pick-me-ups Mischkultur (white field blend) and Piroska (red – Hungarian for “Litte Red”, “Riding hood”), to a Rosé named Rosatant, Fogosch (Grüner Veltliner – hungarian „pikeperch“), Furmint and the mash fermented
white wines Muskat Ottonel and Neuburger. Their secret love is Blaufränkisch. They offer a BFF (Best friend forever) as well as single-vineyard wines from Tannenberg and Schieferberg. All the vineyards are located in Jois and Neusiedl/See, Leithaberg (AOC/PDO).
15 COUNTRIES
90 % of the total production is exported to 15 countries around the world. It seems that natural and unfiltered wines have many fans abroad. What JOISEPH actually means? The village of Jois is the origin of the wines. Joseph symbolizes a man who produces wines like in the past. No additives, no little helpers, just a minimum of sulfites, cleanly done. Clear, pure, straight. „Decent and proper“, as the Elder
would say. Voilà the philosophy of the three guys from JOISEPH!

- All grapes are dry-farmed. None of the vineyards are irrigated.
- All grapes are harvested manually.
