I am a small organic female grower and winemaker in Nemea, the largest winemaking region of Greece and home to the Agiorgitiko grape (which is the most planted red Greek grape). I grew up in Australia with my immigrant parents, and moved back to Nemea as an adult, to start my family with my husband. My consciousness and care for our family had led me to organic viticulture. So I decided, instead of selling organic grapes as raw material and mixed with inferior quality grapes, to make my own wine. In 2004, I created a basic winemaking facility in one of my vineyards.
The lack of investment forced me to rely on basic technology and natural winemaking. There was no surplus of funds to buy organic yeasts and enzymes, so necessity turned me to wild fermentation and lo-fi winemaking.
My wines, naturally, earned a following, due to their raw expression of the organic fruit. I also applied and received organic certification, to prove part of the work that goes into the vineyard. Today I am selling not only locally, but have extended my sales to the USA, Denmark, Canada and Spain with the production of organic natural wines I make from Agiorgitiko, Assyrtiko, and Roditis grapes, following the same methods.
