celler del roure was established in 1999 as a small family winery in the hope of growing by learning from our ancestors. The basis of our viticulture is the recovery of ancient prephylloxera varieties. In 2007, destiny takes us to the highlands of Les Alcusses (wine-growing landscape from the 4th Century BC) and to wake up the old terracotta amphorae that slept at the “bodega fonda” (three underground galleries excavated more than 200 years ago that house 97 amphorae from 600 to 2.800 litters). We cultivate with our hands (with many hands and much respect) Mediterranean grapes in our village, Moixent (Terres dels Alforins D.O.P. Valencia). Our wines come from 40 hectares of owned vineyard and some vineyards for lease from different plots of sandy or clay but always chalky< soils at about 600 meters altitude. The Monastrell variety, the Southeast’s queen, is the star in our “classic wines” family. Les alcusses and Maduresa are two corpulent red wines aged in French oak barrels and foudres. The “ancient wines” are more fluid, have recovery ancient grapes (mandó, arcos and others) and mature in buried terracotta amphorae. The ancient are three red wines, Vermell, Safrà and Parotet, and one white called Cullerot. The past is the future. “Les filles d’Amalia” are two pink colour wines, one still (Les prunes) and a sparkling (Les danses), dedicated to Amalia (my mother). Les prunes and Les danses should be as fine as the perfumed flowers she cares of in her garden.
