Isabelle Legeron MW
THAT CRAZY FRENCH WOMAN
Isabelle Legeron MW is the only French woman ever to have become a Master of Wine: she received both the Villa Maria Award for Viticulture and Madame Bollinger Award for Excellence in Tasting. She was named Wine Woman of the Year 2009 in Paris, and her enthusiasm and love of wine “with soul” is so infectious that Time Out features a wine tasting with her as one of their top ‘1000 things to do in London’.
But most importantly, Isabelle is really out to help people think about what they drink and promote transparency in the wine world. This past year has seen her: writing for Decanter (the UK’s biggest consumer wine magazine) on natural, low intervention wines; consulting for the exclusive, uber-eco-luxury Soneva resorts in the Maldives; co-founding The Natural Wine Fair that was held in Borough Market; helping Italy’s VinNatur organize the NEW11 conference on ‘Natural Wine: A Scientific Approach’ in November 2011; redesigning the wine list at Hibiscus, a 2* Michelin restaurant in Mayfair (the cutting-edge list is all about promoting fine, natural wine, making Hibiscus one of the first Michelin-starred restaurants ever to do so); broadcasting a new TV series on Travel Channel, in 117 countries in 20 different languages, that is all about her quest to make a difference to wine around the world; communicating via her website about fine, natural wine made by small, independent producers who cherish biodiversity and sustainable wine practices.
The other THAT CRAZY FRENCH WOMAN – although slightly less crazy and a little less french.
