Evan Lewandowski fell in love with Utah while at university in Salt Lake City. While falling hard for Utah, he somehow managed to go head over heels for all things wine. He could imagine no better future than to marry these two newfound obsessions. In order to see just how feasible this idea was, he hit the road for an extended research trip. After viticulture studies in Washington State and nearly a decade of assorted vineyard and winemaking positions all over the globe, (all with the sandstone, granite and shale of Utah in mind) his vision is taking shape with Ruth Lewandowski Wines. Evan currently crafts wine naturally from unique sites in Mendocino County in an unfeigned and heartfelt effort to fund the vineyard planting project in Utah. The majority of vines are old, organic and of somewhat obscure varieties and his goal in the cellar is to lay off all the tweaking, tinkering and techno wizardry that is so common in modern day winemaking. His range of wines is largely additive free and showcases both the soil and Evan’s open heart for the enigmatic beauty of nature.
